Pointe-au-Père Lighthouse National Historic Site

History

Among the most important in Canada, the navigational aid station of Pointe-au-Père today helps us better understand the complexity of the St. Lawrence River, the role played by its lighthouse, one of the tallest in the country, the development of sound signals and the importance of St. Lawrence pilots.

Conservation

Located in the heart of the coastal ecosystem, a dynamic environment, the Pointe-au-Père lighthouse station has the full attention of Parks Canada's conservation team and certain ecological monitoring organisations.

Help shed light on the history of lightkeepers

Parks Canada thrives to celebrate the lives and share the stories of the people who tended the light. We are appealing to anyone who might have a connection with Pointe-au-Père lighthouse station or the pilots of the St. Lawrence. If there are any old photos, letters, diaries or family stories you are willing to share, we would love to see or hear them—and so would generations of Canadians yet to come!
