Georgian Bay Islands National Park is located on islands and is accessible by boat only. Visitors should plan their transportation in advance and allow enough time for travel to and from the park.

Day users

Day visitors should plan ahead for transportation, weather, food, water and personal supplies.

Please remember to:

  • arrive early and allow time for parking, check-in and boat transportation
  • bring enough drinking water, snacks or meals for your visit
  • pack sunscreen, insect repellent and weather-appropriate clothing
  • wear sturdy footwear for trails and uneven surfaces
  • check return times and plan to be back at the departure area on time

Services may be limited depending on the area you visit, so please come prepared.

Boaters

Visitors arriving by private boat are responsible for knowing local boating conditions and planning a safe trip.

Before heading out, please check:
  • marine weather and wind conditions
  • navigation routes and water levels
  • docking, mooring or anchoring information
  • required permits or fees
  • safety equipment requirements

Weather on Georgian Bay can change quickly. Boaters should be prepared to adjust their plans if conditions become unsafe.

  • weather-appropriate clothing
  • sturdy footwear
  • a hat and sunglasses
  • personal medication
  • a fully charged phone or communication device
  • garbage bags to pack out waste
  • any supplies needed for children, pets or accessibility needs

Accessibility

Some areas of the park may include uneven terrain, natural surfaces, docks, ramps, stairs or narrow pathways. Conditions may vary by location and by weather. Visitors using mobility devices, large wheelchairs or other accessibility equipment are encouraged to contact the park before their visit so staff can help provide the most current information and support trip planning.

Weather and safety

Weather conditions can change quickly on the water and on the islands. Please check the forecast before your visit and be prepared for sun, wind, rain or cooler temperatures.

For your safety:
  • stay on marked trails where available
  • supervise children near water, docks and shorelines
  • wear a lifejacket or personal flotation device when boating
  • keep a safe distance from wildlife
  • pack out all garbage
  • follow park rules and posted signs

Pets

Pets must be kept under control and on leash where required. Please clean up after your pet and bring enough water and supplies for them. Some areas or services may have restrictions, so please check before you arrive.

Georgian Bay Islands National Park is a protected natural area. Please help care for the park by staying on designated routes, respecting wildlife, packing out what you bring in, and leaving natural and cultural objects where you find them.
