RESTRICTED ACTIVITY: Business operations

What: Pursuant to section 12 (1) of the National Historic Parks General Regulations, the following activities are designated as restricted at Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site. Pursuant to subsection (3) in respect to a designated activity, a business licence is required prior to engaging in business operations and all licence holders must adhere to the terms and conditions identified in their licence.

  • Business operations, including for commercial and non-commercial purposes, means any business provider using a portion or whole of the site to conduct business.
  • “Business” means any trade, industry, employment, occupation, activity or special event carried on for profit, gain, fund raising or commercial promotion, and includes an undertaking carried on by a charitable organization, or by an organization or individual on a non-profit basis.

Where: Parks Canada administered lands, assets and structures at Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site, including Sloop Cove and Cape Merry Battery.

Why:

  • To mitigate adverse impacts on the preservation, control and management of the site.
  • To ensure the safety of visitors and staff.
  • Protection of natural and cultural resources.

Penalty: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act.
