Superintendent Order: Astotin Lake Campground restrictions and notices

Pursuant to section 13 of the National Parks of Canada Camping Regulations, the following activities are restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

No person shall:

• Use a generator except during the hours of 0900 to 1100hrs and 1700hrs to 1900hrs.

• Use any radio, television, stereo, musical instrument or anything that causes excessive noise.

• Use or consume any alcoholic beverages including liquor as defined in the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Act between 2300hrs to 0700hrs of the following day.

• Use or consume cannabis or cannabis products between 2300hrs to 0700hrs of the following day.

• During the below listed dates the use or consumption of alcoholic beverages and cannabis is prohibited.
Friday May 15 at 0800 until Monday May 18 at 1800
Friday, July 31 at 0800 until Monday, August 3 at 1800
Friday, September 4 at 0800 until Monday, September 7 at 1800

• Leave any human food, pet food, or similar organic material out, except for such reasonable periods required for preparing and consuming a meal, or for clean-up immediately.

• All human food, pet food or similar organic material shall be stored inside in a vehicle or a bear proof storage container when not in use.

• Leave any garbage unattended.

• Leave any toiletries, wash basins, cooking stoves, pots or utensils unattended.

• Burn food scraps or garbage.

• Only registered campers are allowed in the campground after 2300hrs.

Where - Astotin Lake Campground

Why - To minimize the degree of noise and disturbance to campers, ensure equitable access, and enhance the safety and enjoyment of this campground in Elk Island National Park.

Penalty - Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000. Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of the camping permit, eviction from the campground and violators may be charged. Camping fees will not be refunded.
